Would be a lot more viable if it had one more high slot, and vice versa for the pythons low slot. Am I crazy, or is the ADS unreasonably handicapped?
The isk costs on these vehicles and modules are exorbitant, the skill point requirements are monumental, and they are as fragile as friggen egg shells! Even if you are pimped the hell out with prototype modules, if you get tag teamed, you are toast. Really ******* expensive toast. And guess what, you are getting tagged teamed no matter what. Kill a guy with an ADS, you bet your ass he's spawning back in with swarms. Kill two guys with an ADS, Now you've got a forge bro and a swarmtard on you. Kill three guys with an ADS, the whole freakin team heads for a depot to cash in on your sweet sweet vehicle kill points.
When you get engaged by multiple AVbros in an ADS you get to harden OR burn, you can't reasonably do both. And yeah, most of the time, running away keeps you alive for one more chance to run away. What other role in this game has to spend half the match disengaging from battle just to survive? Would it be reasonable if Assaults had to spend half a match literally running and hiding? What if heavies had to spend upwards of 300K and a solid 2 minutes to respawn and engage the opponent? And yes, I understand that proto dropsuits are expensive too, but infantry always has the option to switch to an ADV fit or BPO and still contribute to the team in the role they enjoy or excel at.
I understand the need for some degree of handicap. Put an optimized ADS in the hands of a video game wizard, and there'll be a ton of rag dolls, but what about the rest of us?
Something needs to be done to keep the ADS in battle for longer periods of time. What that thing is, I haven't the foggiest. I've seen at least twenty vehicle vs. AV threads in the last four months, and I know that they all instantly devolve into GG, QQ, and a bunch of pointless vitriol. And I can't blame AVrs for fighting a buff to vehicle survivability. At 300 wp for any HAV or DS kill, I would too. Hell, I HAVE.
Personally, I will not participate in AV anymore, outside of vehicle on vehicle AV. I used to love engaging tanks and ships, its a thrill to bring down a resolutely superior opponent, and I am really damn good at it. But now, I consider it an exploitation of game mechanics. |

Yeah, thats how I feel when anything kills me, regardless of the role I'm playing. I understand that ADS related deaths are a bit more frustrating due to their incredible movement speed, and the impossibility of evading overhead attacks in open spaces. |

Thats fun too. But I need to keep my trigger finger in shape, so I can spend countless hours repping gold plated lard asses. |

No,thats not exactly right. If a swarm launcher fires a volley within its optimal range, it will hit you as long is it doesn't encounter terrain, no matter how fast you are moving. You can, however, out-distance a 3rd or even 2nd swarm volley, if it is fired after you are already fleeing, and you have a solid head start.
Look, surviving swarms and other AV in an ADS is not that difficult, the problem is that you are constantly having to flee to survive. Either that or you constantly have to respawn at your mcc, dish out all your isk, and wait patiently for an rdv (and pray it doesn't drop your craft on a bump and blow it up). The battle potential (and cost!) of vehicles, especially aircraft, simply is not congruent with their poor survivability, or the stopping power of AV weaponry.
Like I said in the OP, I don't really have any good ideas to fix vehicles. Buffing vehicles won't work because multiple players can operate vehicles in a battle. Nerfing AV won't work because vehicles are already hard enough to destroy for a single player. Whatever the solution is, if there even is one, it is probably unconventional, within the context of previous balancing measures implemented in dust. |
